The modern office is breaking down barriers. Open floor plans are supplanting cubicles, businesses are going paperless, and natural lighting is illuminating the dark corners of an increasing number of companies. Working from home may have its advantages, but here is our C-Suite 7 of sweet spots to work that are breathing new life into Los Angeles’ office environments.

“You’re starting to see a kind of sophistication merging in this town in a freeform way. Los Angeles holds immense promise as a multinodal city. In traditional downtown-centric cities, as you densify, you tend to clog up the arteries leading into the city. … There’s a pattern of urban spread [and] a lot of room for experimentation because it doesn’t have a legacy of cute, old buildings that clients might fall in love with and want you to emulate.”

“In general we steer clear of the ‘fun and games’ aesthetic that has been recently spoofed on HBO—the whole dot-com deal. I think office environments, Silicon Valley or not, can often be quite generic or overly branded and we strive to make an environment that feels diverse spatially. We want the architecture to provide moments of respite, energy, and communality but not to dominate the work environment. Our model is probably more that of a bustling urban college campus, but a very sophisticated one.”
