When companies plan corporate retreats today, the goal is no longer just meetings — it’s alignment, culture, creativity, and connection. Few destinations in the United States have mastered that balance better than The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, a five-star, five-diamond resort that has quietly become one of the most sought-after destinations for executive retreats and corporate gatherings.
CSQ sat down with Scott Flexman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at The Broadmoor, to discuss why the property continues to be a top choice for corporate meetings and retreats. Flexman oversees sales and marketing not only for The Broadmoor resort, but also for The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway, as well as the resort’s Wilderness Experience portfolio, including The Ranch at Emerald Valley, Cloud Camp, the Orvis-endorsed Fly Fishing Camp, and Seven Falls.
Flexman joined The Broadmoor in 2021, bringing more than 37 years of hospitality leadership experience. Prior to The Broadmoor, he held senior sales and marketing roles at Caribe Royale Orlando/Buena Vista Suites, Fontainebleau Miami Beach, Lansdowne Resort, Boca Raton Resort & Club, and Stouffer and Renaissance Hotels.

The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs has hosted corporate leaders, executives, and organizations for more than a century in a setting that blends historic elegance with modern event capabilities.
The Broadmoor has hosted corporate leaders for more than a century. What is it about the property that consistently attracts companies for retreats and executive gatherings?
The Broadmoor attracts corporate leaders due to its mountain setting naturally that creates focus and perspective, without sacrificing accessibility. The resort’s scale and flexibility make it equally suited for intimate board retreats or large executive gatherings, all delivered at the same high standard. With more than a century of Five-Star service, much of the logistical complexity simply disappears, allowing leaders to stay focused on outcomes. In addition to the great meeting space, our numerous dining, recreation, and experience options, help teams build stronger relationships and alignment that last well beyond the event.
How does hosting a corporate event at The Broadmoor change the way teams interact compared with a typical city convention hotel?
Teams tend to stay connected throughout the entire experience because the resort is self-contained, participants move together from meetings to meals to downtime, rather than scattering across a city. The mountain setting and outdoor-connected spaces invite informal conversations and shared moments that strengthen relationships beyond the agenda. Compared with a typical city convention hotel, there are fewer distractions and a noticeable shift from transactional meetings to more meaningful collaboration and alignment.

Guided fly fishing excursions are among the experiential activities that help teams build relationships and trust in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Many companies today are prioritizing experiences over traditional conferences. How do the resort’s outdoor and experiential offerings—like fly-fishing, golf, falconry, and mountain adventures—enhance corporate gatherings?
Our outdoor and experiential offerings turn events into something more than time spent in meetings. When teams are fly fishing, out on the golf course, or experiencing falconry or guided mountain adventures together, relationships form in a much more natural way. Those shared moments create space for trust, informal conversation, and collaboration that simply doesn’t happen in a traditional meeting room. These experiences are thoughtfully integrated into the resort and led by experienced guides. The connections built outdoors tend to carry back into business discussions.

What trends are you seeing from companies when they plan executive retreats or company-wide gatherings today?
Companies are being much less conventional about how they design retreats today. Instead of packed agendas, they’re prioritizing experiences, wellness, and real connection. Gatherings are becoming less about sharing information and more about building alignment, trust, and relationships.
The Broadmoor is known for exceptional service. How does that translate specifically into the corporate events experience—from planning through execution?

Can you share an example of a particularly memorable corporate event hosted at The Broadmoor and what made it successful?
One example was an industry leadership conference we hosted, where executives consistently noted that the success came from pairing strong content with an environment that kept people present. Couple that with seamless execution, a self-contained resort setting, and exceptional service, and they had a truly memorable experience.
For executives planning their next leadership retreat or company gathering, what advice would you give when choosing a destination venue?
Begin with the outcome, then choose a destination that provides focus, privacy, and inspiration. The right environment influences how leaders connect, decide, and move forward together.
