Mission:

The XX Project is a membership-only networking platform bringing leading women in business together across diverse industries from entertainment, marketing, technology, finance, wellness, and media. For the past 8 years, The XX Project has curated over 100 events across Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco featuring guest speakers such as Soledad O’Brien, Beth Comstock, Pat Mitchell, Eve, Tina Knowles, Lavinia Errico, and Suzanne DePasse. The XX Project launched the “Seat at the Table” Founders & Funders series to bring together leading founders, funders, and c-suite executives to propel collaboration and empower key women in positions of power to further female entrepreneurship. The conversation centers on what it means to have a seat at the table in the marketplace, and the advantage female founders have in this climate. The kickoff event featured guest speaker Brian Lee of BAM Ventures, who supports many female-founded businesses, including Jessica Alba’s The Honest Company, feminine care wellness startup Rael, Violet Grey, and Sagely Naturals.

Event Highlights:

Brian Lee shared several inspiring stories about the beginnings of his successful ventures. Lee described how he founded Legal Zoom after calling 411 and requesting to be transferred to Robert Shapiro. Lee pitched him the idea about Legal Zoom at 9pm. Shapiro agreed to speak with him again the following day during regular business hours. Lee also described the launch of ShoeDazzle with Kim Kardashian, and how he and Kardashian drove together to the City of Industry in a U-Haul and filled it with shoes. These stories reinforce the idea that business owners must wear multiple hats and do it all when first launching a business.
